"I had a 38' x 45' driveway pad poured in front of my house / garage 14 years ago.... At the time, I had solicited 5 bids for the job. The lowest bid was from a guy who was just going to put a form on top of my existing gravel and fill it with cement. The highest bid was from a guy was going to give me a new 4" gravel base and then put a form and fill it with cement....The day before I was to sign the contract with the middle bidder, my next door neighbor, Mike, found out what I was planning and gave me Frank's number...Frank came over that afternoon to give me an estimate....Frank's bid included several items and techniques that none of the other contractors ever mentioned.... when Frank left the house after the estimate, my wife and I looked at each other and both agreed that he was the only guy we got and estimate from who actually knew what he was doing...We hired him for the job, even though he was the highest bidder.
